Diesel Space - Cruiser concept by Skaiway Diesel Space - Cruiser concept by Skaiway

Cruiser concept for Diesel Space, took about 2 and a half hours.

With this, I really noticed that my use of time is...broken. This was open the whole day, but according to my timelapse which I only activated when working I spent only that 2.5 hours doing it :|

Diesel Space is currently just an art/universe project, hopefully a game in the future.

Overall, I like the design very much. The shapes are great, it very much looks like a millitary vessel. Your style and technique work very well, and I like the muted colors. As to suggestions I would make to improve it.... hmmmm, well the port and starboard cannons, while looking cool where they are would have a severely limited firing arch, I would suggest scooting the hangar deck for'ard a bit and placing the turrets top and bottom (or have the cannons mounted to a spherical turret to increase range of motion) I would add a few torpedo tubes at bow and stern too. The ship also appears to have no weapons aft, which is an exploitable weakness an enemy commander will take advantage of. As a mid-sized a warship, cruisers need to be able to defend against swarms of small, highly maneuverable ships, so I suggest adding anti-spacecraft (anti-aircraft) guns amidships. And finally I like the hydroplanes on the conning tower, however they serve no purpose in space unless treated more like adjustable ion thrusters. To this end I suggest adding maneuvering thrusters port and starboard, fore and aft, in the rough placement where one would expect to find hydroplanes on a wwII era submarine. That's about all I have to suggest, overall I like this alot, the forms are great and the design in general is very cool. Keep up the good work.

I love the design, but I must say the turrets are impractical. Given the ship's design and 3D space, those should be ball turrets, otherwise your flanks are completely exposed. Unless you have a concept of spaceship battles that emphasizes pure forward firepower. Given your destroyer, I would guess the latter.

Diesel Space? Not a project for me any longer, didn't go anywhere.

Awesome man! The only thing I can see that looks a little out of place are the engines at the back; their placement and overall shape looks a little unrefined and goofy. Was that the mood/tone you were going for?

Well, apart from my drawing skills contributing to the goofiness, the ships should look like they we're made mostly by hand (or automatons powered by steam, naturally) and lo-tech, unsophisticated tools. Nothing is refined and some parts might not make any sense. Taken how little time I've put into the actual workings of these ships and that I didn't really sketch nor plan them they will seem unrefined no matter how much lore I conjure up :P

I agree modelling this would be fun! And as for the weapons maybe the mid-ship metal parts are able to direct electro-magnetic charges... sounds legit!
Concept and appearance are cool! I look forward to seeing your timelapse =]

Thanks, you thought about the mechanics a lot more than I did :P
